But the image of a nightgown-clad girl with soaking wet hair climbing out of a TV surely scarred a generation. The plot is simple: a cursed VHS tape causes whoever watches it to die in seven days. But even after The Grudge, One Missed Call, The Uninvited, and all the others, The Ring stands out as the best (and scariest) of the lot thanks to Verbinski’s spooky, shadowy visuals and a moody score by Hans Zimmer.
